Organized by Joella Cabalu, Krystal Paraboo, and Phebe Ferrer, “Building Sustainable Creative Careers” was going to be the final session of the 2020 Future Forum. Exploring methods for obtaining leadership roles and how BIWOC creatives might sustain well-balanced careers would be a fitting way to end a day designed to stoke our energy and creativity.

On the day we were scheduled to have the Future Forum, Joella went on Instagram and curated questions about how to navigate work and professional life as a woman of colour. She collected responses from the BIWOC community shared them on her stories, which you can view below.

Joella Cabalu is a Filipino-Canadian documentary filmmaker with experience in organizing professional development events through her board membership at Documentary Organization of Canada. Since entering the film industry, questions around how creatives manage to live in Vancouver while pursuing their artistic interests have fuelled her curiosity. She is currently producing her first feature documentary Back Home with support from Telefilm Talent to Watch fund.
